Unique

SOUND

EXPERIENCE

with live music in Prague venue

Singing, oboe and organ performed by National Theatre soloists

Mezzo-soprano Yvona Škvárová and oboist Vratislav Vlna are experienced soloists of the National Theatre in Prague. Together with organist and pianist Michal Hanzal, they perform famous classical and sacred music by Bach, Handel, Mozart, Dvořák, Puccini and other composers.

The programme offers many different combinations of voice and instruments. You will hear singing with organ or piano, oboe with organ or piano, all three musicians together and also the organ on its own. Each combination gives the music a different colour and atmosphere.

The gentle and expressive sound of the oboe is rarely heard at church concerts. Its combination with the majestic pipe organ is even more unusual. Together with the mezzo-soprano voice, the instruments create a rich and memorable musical experience in the baroque interior of Kostel sv. Mikuláše on the Old Town Square.

Feel the gentle power of live music

The concert begins downstairs, directly in front of the audience, where the musicians perform with piano. From close by, you can clearly hear the warm mezzo-soprano voice, the gentle sound of the oboe and the intimate character of the piano.

The performers then move high above the audience to the main balcony beside the large pipe organ. Here, the voice and oboe combine with the organ as the music rises into the dome and spreads throughout the baroque interior. Thanks to the unique acoustics of Kostel sv. Mikuláše, the sound surrounds the audience and seems to embrace them. The soft, lyrical oboe creates a rare and beautiful contrast with the power and depth of the organ.

At the end of the concert, the musicians return downstairs and perform close to the audience once again. Thanks to the exceptional acoustics and unique design of Kostel sv. Mikuláše, the changing combinations of singing, oboe, organ and piano create a different impression in each part of the space.
