Majestic organ and string orchestra in Prague

Camerata Pragensis Orchestra and organist Michal Hanzal perform famous works by Bach, Handel, Vivaldi and Mozart in St. Nicholas Church on the Old Town Square. The programme brings together the depth and power of the pipe organ with the warm and elegant sound of a string orchestra.

During the concert, you will hear the organ and orchestra both separately and together. Solo organ works show the majestic sound of the instrument, while the orchestra brings lightness, energy and rich string colours. When they perform together, these different sounds become one impressive musical whole.

The combination of pipe organ and string orchestra is not often heard at classical concerts. In the baroque interior and unique acoustics of St. Nicholas Church, it creates a powerful and memorable live music experience in the historic centre of Prague.

Feel the sound of organ and strings surround you

Part of the concert is performed downstairs, directly in front of the audience. From close by, you can clearly hear the warm sound of the strings and watch the musicians perform together as an orchestra.

For another part of the concert, the entire orchestra moves high above the audience to the main balcony beside the large pipe organ. From there, the organ and strings perform together, hidden from view. Their combined sound rises into the dome and flows down through the baroque interior towards the listeners.

This gives the audience a rare chance to experience the music without being distracted by what they see. You can close your eyes, slow down and focus only on the sound and the gentle vibrations coming down from the dome.
